Frank af Petersens is a professional photographer with a background in photojournalism and fine art photography. He has had numerous exhibitions in Europe and the United States, and is represented in private and corporate art collections in the world.
Swedish by birth, he has lived in Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia. Africa made a lasting impression, and he returns frequently to capture images of its landscapes, people and wild animals.
Tragically, two of Africa’s most iconic species – elephants and rhinos – are under threat from highly organized, large-scale poaching for horns and ivory. For the past 20 years, Frank af Petersens has worked pro bono on photo assignments to document the increasingly brutal poaching wars in sub-Saharan Africa.
He has been a contributing photographer to Save The Elephants, Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, Elephant Crisis Fund, Wildlife Conservation Network, Tsavo Trust, Save The Rhino International, Akashinga/International Anti Poaching Foundation, The Thin Green Line Foundation, African Parks, and Wildhood Foundation.
He has also donated thousands of photos for websites, social media campaigns, fundraising events and print publications in support of the fight against poaching. The proceeds from exhibition sales help finance this volunteer work.
In 2018, Frank af Petersens was awarded a grant by HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in recognition of his work to preserve Africa’s wildlife.
